Video-KYC is an alternative to a full in-person KYC process that banking customers are required to complete.

Initially, NICB has restricted VKYC for it's existing retail customers. The customer should be a tax resident of India, above the age of 18, registered for mobile alerts, and has a PAN card.

A customer should be within the geographical boundaries of India, should have a camera and GPS enabled smartphone with good internet connectivity (preferably 4G and above). During the VKYC session customer will have to allow access to the phone's mic, camera, location, etc. to successfully conduct the VKYC session.

Other than PAN (mandatory) a customer needs to present one of the following OVDs i.e. AADHAAR, Driving License, Passport, Voter ID. Customers are advised to keep all the application documents handy at the scheduled time.

Type VKYC (space) Your CIF ID and send it to 9870977191 from registered mobile number to schedule the VKYC. Alternatively, a customer can visit any NICB branch and request to schedule a VKYC.

Once we receive the VKYC request, an SMS confirmation is sent to the customer on their registered mobile number. The bank representative calls the customer to schedule the VKYC session at a convenient time of the customer. Once the slot is booked, the customer receives an SMS at the scheduled time with a link to initiate the VKYC session.

During the VKYC session along with the live location of the customer, photographs of the customer, PAN, OVD are captured followed by the Q&A session.

A fresh request for VKYC will have to be placed.

If the session is disconnected abruptly due to connectivity issues the customer can resume the session if connectivity is restored within a couple of minutes. Else, a fresh request for VKYC will have to be placed.

The customer will receive an SMS intimation immediately after completion of the VKYC session. The application is sent for scrutiny. Within 3-5 working days, the customer receives a final confirmation on the status of the VKYC application.

The VKYC is completely free.
